Club History

Early History

The sports club can trace its origins back to the 1920’s when it first existed as a cricket club. A booklet ‘The History of Chalgrave Sports Club‘ written by Michael & Barbara Kingham in 1992 gives a detailed account of the club from this period up to 1993.

Modern History

The period from the 1990’s to the present day is covered in the Modern History. This includes lots of photographs and information on the clubs’ activities and how it has evolved over the years to its present form. The modern history has been compiled from members recollections, articles that were published in the Chalgrave News (see below) and from copies of past meeting notes and other documents. The history is not yet complete as it is a work in progress, but it is currently being expanded on a weekly basis until completed.

CSC in the Chalgrave News

The Chalgrave News is a community parish magazine, published 3 or 4 times a year since 2002. Most issues contained a report or news item about the sports club. All these articles have now been collated and put into a two-volume set of PDF documents (Vol 1 2002-2023, Vol 2 2024 – present day), which are updated as new editions of the magazine are published.

Volume 1
2002 – 2023

Volume 2
2024 – Present Day

Much of the information from these articles was referenced when compiling the Modern History. Full copies of all the past and current issues of Chalgrave News can be found on the Chalgrave Parish Council website.

Memories & Memorabilia Wanted

The club has a rich and interesting history with a great number of people, as players, supporters, or committee members, involved with the club over the years. As a club we are keen to preserve and share this history for others to enjoy, both now, and for future generations. If you have any interesting stories, anecdotes, photos, documents, or other memorabilia (we can scan or copy photos/documents etc) we would love to hear from you.
